RE: Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE)

Suzy, does grapefruit seed extract (GSE) cause the same drug interactions as drinking grapefruit juice or eating grapefruit? I've seen differing comments online. Please set the record straight. Thanks!

Anna, I am also on Plavix due to a TIA. Have you had any problem with hair loss? I've been on the med. for 4 mo. and noticed the last several weeks I am losing my hair from the root.

What an excellent article. Unfortunately, doctors seldom comment on foods to be avoided with drugs they prescribe. We recently had a a problem with the diuretic spironolactone which, as you mentioned, retains potassium. My husband ended up in the emergency room because of elevated potassium levels which can cause heart arythmias or possibly even a heart attack! Now another diuretic has been prescribed that doesnt have that effect. Better to have been forewarned!
Question: is there any bad effect of niacin in a person with mild kidney disease?

I am taking Plavix. If I take Red Yeast Rice can I still take Plavix or do I stop taking Plavix. Plavix was perscribed because of a mild stroke due to a piece of cholestral that got loose and blocked. I was lucky to have no damage at all.
Please let me know as soon as possible. I want to start my Red Yeast Rice soon.
Thank You
